Visual Arts

Although visual art is integrated across the curriculum, time is set apart for art class, in which students study the great works of art and learn through imitation of the masters. Through a variety of media including pencil, pastel, watercolor, acrylic paint, and sculpture, students experiment with various styles and techniques and learn to appreciate and incorporate beauty, form and color in their artwork.

Speech & Drama

Students at Maryvale explore speech and drama in a variety of cross-curricular contexts, through regular poetry recitation, performance in skits and plays, and participation in the annual public speaking contest and the annual spring showcase.

Music

Students are exposed to a variety of music and musical styles starting in kindergarten. Especially in the grammar stage, music is a natural and integral way to learn in all subject areas (ex. French, math, geography, etc.) in addition to being a delight in itself. From grade 1 onwards, students receive more formal training in music theory, music history and appreciation, and multi-part choral singing of sacred music. Students have multiple opportunities to sing for the glory of God in the weekly mass celebrations and various concerts throughout the year.
