The kindergarten program at Maryvale features small class size, individual attention, an inviting, spacious & well-equipped classroom, and above all, a loving and nurturing atmosphere in which to grow academically and spiritually.

Morning program includes:

  • Daily chapel visit and prayers: In addition to traditional prayers such as The Our Father, Hail Mary, Glory Be, and Prayer to Guardian Angels, children are introduced to spontaneous prayers to develop a deeper and personal relationship with the Lord.
  • Mathematics with manipulatives and workbook activities (counting, skip counting, numerals and ordinals, shapes & patterns, time, number sense activities, addition and subtraction stories)
  • Individualized one-on-one reading lessons with the teacher, using explicit, systematic instruction with carefully scaffolded phonetic-based lessons that build confidence and independence and that help students achieve a high rate of reading mastery success
  •  Printing practice, word and sentence copying exercises
  • Phonics exercises: action-packed songs which provide a fun and effortless way to build phonemic awareness as well as daily drills to ensure fluency
  • Leisure reading and free play time

Afternoon program includes:

  • Outdoor playtime on the field and indoor gym time
  • Circle time with Scripture memorizatDSC_3634ion (ex. John 3:16, Psalm 100), poetry recitation (ex. “The Frog” and “George” by Hilaire Belloc, “My Shadow” by Robert Louis Stevenson), music (ex. classics such as “Peter & the Wolf“, chants), storytelling, language games & songs, calendar activities. There are also opportunities for show and tell.
  • Engaging and fun hands-on science lessons geared to inspire awe and wonder at God’s creation (ex. growing plants from seeds, going on nature walks, learning about rocks and fossils, exploring how magnets work, the science behind bubbles, the five senses, etc.)
  • Art appreciation and thematic arts & crafts (seasonal, feast days, holidays)
  • French language introduction (days of the week, months of the year, numbers, songs, vocabulary, and basic conversational phrases)

The kindergarten class participates in other aspects of Maryvale Academy, such as joining in the weekly mass celebrations as well as other feast day and holiday activities, and presenting prayers, poems, songs and skits for the annual spring showcase.
