Oral Communication

Students work towards becoming fluent speakers of the French language. The program aids students in building vocabulary and introducing more complex sentences and tenses into their speech. Students will write and perform skits, ask and answer questions, participate in conversations and give their opinions on simple debate questions. Eventually students will be able to research and discuss a variety of topics.

Listening

Students learn to understand simple conversations and stories. The more advanced students work at understanding more complex speech. Students listen to classical French stories and films listening for overall meaning. Eventually they will listen for specific meaning focusing on vocabulary and answering more specific questions on the story lines. They will also begin to listen and respond to others’ opinions working towards more complex conversations and eventually debating.

Reading and Writing

Students will work on pronunciation, comprehension and vocabulary building by reading simple stories for overall and specific meaning. Eventually they will be able to read longer and more complex works as they develop their vocabulary. Beginner students will be able to write simple sentences and paragraphs on familiar topics. Eventually students will be capable of writing longer paragraphs and papers on both familiar and researched topics.
