Maryvale Academy held its annual spring showcase last week. It was a delightful evening, full of songs, poems, prayers and plays in English and in French!
The adorable kindergarten class presented some songs, prayers and a poem based on Aesop’s “The Hare and The Tortoise”.
The grade 1/2 class expertly answered catechism questions, recited a poem called “Animal Crackers”, sang a South African folk song and presented a lively French play “Guillaume Tell” written by Mlle Geraghty and based on the story of William Tell. The grade 3/4 class performed the colourful “Ali Baba et les quarante voleurs” (adapted by Mme Costisella) for their French presentation.
For their English presentation, they did a beautiful rendition of the story of “Our Lady of Fatima” , in joyful celebration of the 100th anniversary of the Apparitions of Our Lady of Fatima and the canonization of two of the children earlier this month! It was written by their teacher, Mr Thompson.
The grade 5/6 class performed “Damnatio ad Bestias” (translated as “Condemned to the Beasts”), an inspiring play written by Miss De Luca and based on the life and writings of St. Perpetua and her martyrdom along with St. Felicity and companions.
The grade 7/8 class presented “The Sinking of The Mariposa Belle”, a clever play written by our Dr. Kozakewich and inspired by Stephen Leacock’s “Sunshine Sketches of a Little Town”, in celebration of Canada’s 150th birthday this year.
Thanks to all the students, parents and teachers who worked so hard to prepare for the showcase, including creating scripts, props, costumes and set pieces! Also thanks to alumni students and parents for all their help, and to the Maryvale community for their support!
